UT govt hospitals to issue birth certificates at time of discharge

Earlier, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation used to issue the birth certificate in a week’s time. Now, the MC has appointed sub-registrars for the issuance of birth certificate at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh; Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 and Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh.
The first copy of the birth certificate will be issued free of cost.
Speaking to HT, a senior officer of MC said, “We have already started the facility on trial basis at all the three prominent hospitals. The scheme will be formally announced soon.”
Medical superintendent at GMSH-16 Dr G Dewan said, “We have already started issuing the birth certificates online. Now, the mothers leave the hospital with the birth certificate of the newborn. As far as death certificate is concerned, there are still some hitches, but that too will be launched soon.”
As far as the births in private hospitals are concerned, the parents will have to procure the birth certificates from the MC’s office only.
