Members of the Valmiki Samaj Bachao Andolan staged a protest and took out a march from the municipal corporation's Zone D office to Zone A office.

Traffic was disrupted at several points during the protest march. The protesters were raising slogans against a private garbage lifting company, claiming that because of the company the community members were losing their source of livelihood.

The members were demanding that they should be allowed to lift garbage from the city localities.

Chairman of the Valmiki Samaj Bachao Andolan Surinder Kalyan said that thousands of the members of Valmiki samaj earned their bread and butter by lifting garbage from homes in the city. "After a private company was deployed to lift garbage from door-to-door, we have lost our source of livelihood," said Kalyan.

He demanded that the government should allow the community members to lift garbage from different areas.

Traffic remained disrupted on the Ferozepur road when nearly 200 Valmiki samaj members marched towards the Bharat Nagar Chowk. The march ended at the Zone A office of the MC.
