Various breeds take part in city's dog show

Hundreds of dogs exhibitors flocked the Punjab Agricultural University ground to participate in a dog show which was organised by the Ludhiana Kennel Club on Sunday.

Pir Ghulam Fareed, MLA, Gujranwala district, Pakistan Punjab, a dog lover himself, presided over the event as a chief guest.

As many as 325 official entries were made at the dog show where all the popular breeds Rottweiler, Labrador, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Mastiff, Pug and Alsatian among others were seen putting up a spectacular show of their tricks entertained one and all present.

Avninder Grewal, NRI from Canada and chief organiser of the show, said, "Dogs from across the country took part in the show.".

"There is a set standard for every dog, so we have the certified judges here who evaluate each breed and ascertain how close a particular dog is to the required standards for it and is awarded points accordingly," he added.

He revealed that the dogs were divided in eight different categories and one dog would be rewarded from each category apart from the best puppy and best bred categories in India.

The dog exhibitors were seen putting their best efforts to guide their dogs to match the required standards while spectators looked on eagerly.

Fareed, chief guest at the occasion said, "I am extreme;y passionate about dogs and deeply honoured to be part of the dog show here."
