The state vigilance bureau (VB) on Monday nabbed a sub-divisional officer (SDO) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and his clerk red-handed while accepting bribe. Chief director-cum-director general of police (vigilance bureau) Suresh Arora said the VB sleuths caught SDO Siri Ram posted at Lasoi village in Malerkotla tehsil of Sangrur and clerk Bhag Singh while accepting R10,000 and R500 bribe, respectively.
He said complainant Baljinder Kaur, a resident of Madhokal village in Fatehgarh Sahib district, had approached the VB, alleging that the SDO and his clerk were demanding bribe from her for enhancing consumer load of her tubewell connection. Kaur owned 2-acre land at Lasoi village.
He said after verifying the facts, a vigilance team led by Gurcharan Singh, inspector, VB, Sangrur, laid a trap and nabbed the two red-handed in the presence of two government officials as witnesses. "The bribe amount was recovered from them," he said. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and further investigation was under progress.
