Venue for R-Day programme changed

The district administration has changed the venue of district-level Republic Day programme to Guru Nanak Stadium at the last moment due to the unpredictable weather. Earlier, the programme was scheduled to be held at the ground of SCD Government College.

The district administration was carrying out all rehearsals at SCD College ground, but downpour had driven the administration to change the venue. The heavy rain in Ludhiana on Tuesday and Wednesday has spoiled the ground and it will not dry till January 26.

On Friday, Children participating in the Republic Day celebration were ferried to SCD College by the schools, but as they came to know that the venue has been changed, children were then sent to the stadium. The administration has provided buses for ferrying the participants. Guru Nanak Stadium has synthetic athletic track that can bear all weather conditions without getting spoiled.

The full-dress rehearsals were held in Guru Nanak Stadium on Friday. Commissioner of police Nirmal Singh Dhillon unfurled the national flag. Punjab Police troops and NCC cadets participated in the march past led by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Amandeep Singh and Jasveer Singh.

Dhillon said chief minister Parkash Singh Badal would be the chief guest for the district-level programme.

He said the students have prepared cultural programme showing rich culture of Punjab. Physical Training (PT) and laser show would be the main attractions of the show.
Other dignitaries, who were present on the occasion included deputy commissioner of police (DCP) harsh Kumar Bansal, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) (general) Dr Neeru Katyal Gupta, assistant inspector general (AIG) (CID) Gurpreet Singh Toor, assistant commissioner Shena Aggarwal, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Kuljit Pal Singh Mahi and SDM Ajay Kumar Sood.
