Rakesh Verma, a senior Indian administrative officer (IAS), has been appointed as the new commissioner of the Ludhiana municipal corporation.
Verma, who is a 1993-cadre officer, has served at various positions in the Punjab government. Born on April 25, 1971, Verma hails from Uttar Pradesh and has done Btech in computer engineering with first division.
The Punjab government on Friday ordered immediate transfers of 12 IAS, 10 PCS, one IRS officials among 23 officials in the state.
Verma has served at different districts of the state, including Bathinda, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Ropar and Patiala among others. He was serving as secretary in the personnel and general administration department. He was appointed on the post on July 13, 2009.
Former commissioner of the MC MS Jaggi was suspended for having misused his powers to victimise a vegetable vendor after the latter had an altercation with his wife.
An official press statement said Verma has been placed at the disposal of the department of the local government for posting as commissioner of the LMC.
