Four days after Akhil Chauhan took his own life, his family consigned the body to flames here at the Model Town on Thursday amid tight police security.
In another important development, two of the nine accused booked for abetting suicide - victim's wife and her father - surrendered in a court here on Thursday. The accused appeared in the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Amit Kumar Garg in the afternoon.
The court sent the woman in two days' police custody and her father to four-day police remand.
Earlier in the day, the police had cordoned off the area around the crematorium. Besides, victim's family members and close relatives, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Joginder Rathee, tesildar Hari Om Attri were also present when the body was consigned to flames.
Chauhan had died on Sunday after he consumed poison. In the suicide note, he had charged his wife, her family members and relatives, besides four policemen, with harassment and driving him to take the extreme step.
Victim's kin had set the condition of arrest of all the accused for the cremation and the district authorities were continuously making efforts to convince the family to perform the funeral rites.
There have been widespread protests here ever since Akhil committed suicide on Sunday. Hundreds of members of the Ror community took to road, demanding arrest of the accused.
