The father of the minor girl from Faridkot who was twice abducted in June and September 2012 has written to the deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police to know how convict Nishan Singh, who had been awarded double life sentence by the district and sessions judge here, managed to get parole.
Nishan Singh, who was convicted in three cases of abduction and rape besides threatening the victim’s family, was granted parole from November 11 to December 6, it is learnt. He was currently in Ferozepur jail, whose jail superintendent SS Saini said, “Nishan has been granted parole and the formalities were completed in SAS Nagar district.”
The family and locals have objected to the parole as the administration of Faridkot, whose resident he is, were not taken into confidence. A source said the application of parole is forwarded to the district magistrate concerned for further action. However, though the convict is a resident of Faridkot and committed the major crimes in the district, the formalities for his parole were completed in SAS Nagar district.
A senior police officer at Kharar said, “His mother has bought a flat at Kharar and stays there. Prominent people verified his character, so the police did not object to the parole.”
Faridkot deputy commissioner Malwinder Singh Jaggi said he was not aware of the issuance of a no objection certificate as it was not issued by the administration.
“The victim’s father has given me a written submission. I have sought a report from the jail superintendent. Action would be taken after I receive the report. I have also asked the SSP to provide adequate security to the family,” Jaggi said.
Faridkot city SHO Surjeet Singh said, “The family already has a security guard. Besides, we have told a motorcycle patrol party to keep a vigil on the family.”
Victim’s father Ashwani Sachdeva had written to the SSP and DC to provide him detailed information about how the accused had got the parole as he was convicted in three cases and besides, a few cases were pending against him.
A case of abduction was registered against Nishan and others on June 25, 2012, while the second case was registered against him and others at Faridkot city police station on September 24, 2012, when the girl was abducted for the second time from her house after leaving her parents injured.
Later, another case was registered against him when he made a call from the Faridkot jail to the victim’s father threatening him against deposing in the court.
The Faridkot district and sessions judge had awarded him two life sentences in these cases in May 2013.
