Star Indian boxer Vijender Singh met Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday and offered his support to any government initiative aimed at promoting sports in the state.

Vijender, who turned professional earlier this year, was on his first trip to India after making the transition.

The 30-year-old former Olympic and World Championships bronze-medallist won both the bouts he fought after turning pro.

“I am pleased to meet our chief minister and I thanked him for extending his full support in the debut of my professional career. He is very happy with my performance and he congratulated me for two back to back wins. I am happy that our CM is following my professional fights very closely,” Vijender said after the meeting.

Vijender further said that during the meeting, Khattar had discussed with him the future of boxing in the country and the development of sports in the state.

“As we all know that Haryana has produced many international star players in different sports in the last few years, I want this to continue in future also and I extend my full support to Khattar for the development and promotion of sports in Haryana,” he added.

Vijender’s next bout is scheduled to be held on December 19 in Manchester but his rival is yet to be decided.
