Tension prevailed in Bijoula near Subhanpur on Wednesday after a priest of village gurdwara allegedly made derogatory remarks about a well-known saint. The priest however denied making any such comment and said he only quoted from a book.
Sources said that a group of people from a particular community assembled at the gurdwara after hearing the remarks by priest Giani Gurbachan Singh in the morning.
"It were not my comments. I simply uttered what was mentioned in a book written by one Mohan Singh," Gurbachan Singh clarified.
Majhabi Sikh Morcha leader Mohinder Singh Hamira and several leaders belonging to different communities reached the village and appealed the villagers to maintain peace.
After intervention of Dhilwan Sukhdev Bangarh and Subhanpur SHO Manjit Singh, both parties later reached a compromise. "We have decided to send the book for legal opinion and no case has been registered," said the SHO.
