Gurdaspur MP Vinod Khanna and his wife Kavita Khanna took part in the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' organised by the district administration here on Thursday.
Around 2,000 volunteers of the Nirankari sect also joined the cleanliness drive in the town as they were seen on roads early in the morning with brooms in their hands.
Vinod Khanna and the local residents also took the cleanliness pledge administered by deputy commissioner Sukhvinder Singh before launch of the drive.
Army personnel were also seen in many parts of the town busy in cleaning various parts of the town and the cantonment areas.
Many NGOs also joined the drive along with the local leaders belonging to different parties.
Deputy speaker Dinesh Singh Babbu, accompanied by Dhar Kalan SDM Srinivasan began his drive from Manwal
Bhagh temple after which he visited many parts of his Sujanpur constituency.
Pathankot MLA Ashwani Sharma and Bhoa MLA Seema Kumari also took part in the drive along with their supporters.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinod Khanna said that the mission must not fade away in the coming days and local residents must develop a habit to keep their surroundings clean.
Meanwhile, the town presented a clean look with several areas getting rid of garbage. However, residents of some localities wanted the corporation employees to help them in removing the heavy garbage dumps with the help of their machines.
