Dismissing reports about the possibility of party rebel Sawarn Salaria contesting as an Independent, BJP's Gurdaspur nominee Vinod Khanna has expressed the hope that everything would be sorted out by Wednesday afternoon when he would file his nominations.
The BJP rank and file in this constituency has been in low spirits in the wake of reports that Salaria, who was deied party ticket, might contest as an Independent. Salaria enjoys good support among Rajputs, the community which constitutes a large chunk of the electorate here.
Addressing a press conference here, Vinod Khanna claimed after filing his nomination, he would intensify his election campaign which so far has a very slow momentum.
He said that his wife Kavita Khanna, who is also a BJP member, would file papers as his covering candidate.
Claiming that he had made successful efforts in getting an airport and bridges built in the constituency, Khanna said that he was sure that people would cast their vote in his favour.
He said that only BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi can give good governance to the country which was reeling under corruption and inflation.
Salaria, who is keeping his cards close to his chest, was not available for comments.
Meanwhile, Khanna's Congress rival Partap Singh bajwa has intensified his campaign and is touching most of the areas in the constituency through his whirlwind tours.
