On the second day of campaigning in this district, chief minister Virbhadra Singh lambasted the previous Prem Kumar Dhumal-led Bharatiya Jnata Party regime for the financial crisis in the state.
Addressing public meetings at Jari and Jalugran to win voters' favour for his wife Pratibha Singh, the Congress candidate from Mandi, Virbhadra alleged, “Due to the extravagance of the BJP government in Dhumal's regime, he burdened the state with nearly Rs 12,000crore debts, which deteriorated the financial condition of the state.”
Terming the BJP a “one-man party”, Singh said, “The BJP is spending crores of rupees on its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's promotion through television channels and newspapers, which run his advertisements throughout the day. The Election Commission should take note of this and ask where the money to pay for the advertising came from.”
Taking a dig at the opposition party, Singh alleged, “The BJP had collected Rs 1,000 crore on the pretext of the construction of a Ram Mandir (temple) at Ayodhya, but that public money was misused.”
