Bus commuters in the city will have to sweat through another summer as Ludhiana MC City Bus Service would acquire AC buses only in September.

After 11 non-AC buses were flagged off on March 4, talks were rife that the MC would acquire AC buses this year. However, while talking to Hindustan Times, the manager of the bus service, Baljit Singh, said they planned to acquire the AC buses in September. He did not comment on the number of AC buses to be bought.

At present, there are 31 non-AC low floor buses that ply on different routes in the city.

The authorities plan to increase the fleet to 40 this summer, but the AC ones will have to wait. “We will not acquire any AC buses during the summer this year. They will be acquired with the next lot that is supplied to us in September,” Baljit Singh said.

Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria had flagged off 11 non-AC buses on March 4. Sources in the MC said a lot of 10 new buses was likely to hit the roads on Tuesday.

“We are carrying out the registration of the received; this will be done by Tuesday,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria recently announced a new bus service for Gurdwara Manji Sahib at Alamgir. “The initiative has been taken by the mayor as a gift to the residents. Six buses that ply on the route to Gill Road will now travel till the gurdwara every Sunday” Baljit said.
