The police in Valtoha village of Tarn Taran on Friday said they had arrested a man named Mandeep Singh, alias Money, who was wanted in 20 cases, including those of murder and robberies. Arms and ammunition were seized from the possession of Money, who is said to be a member of the infamous ‘Ajgar gang’ of the area.
The arrest was made on May 8 but the police disclosed the information only on Friday. Avtar Singh ‘Ajgar’, kingpin of the gang, had already been nabbed a few days ago.
Money and four other men were in a car coming from Punia village to Patti, and halted on the way to plan a criminal activity, said deputy superintendent of police of Bhikhiwind area Sulakhan Singh. “After getting a tip-off from an informer, the police party deployed at Ghariali Chowk conducted a raid with immediate effect. On seeing the cops, the others managed to flee but Money was caught. A pistol and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.”
A resident of Tarn Taran, Money allegedly confessed to the police that he and his aides murdered a man named Shankar Bawa near Patti. “Not only this, he managed to be released from Ludhiana jail by fabricating bail documents with the help of a woman lawyer,” said the police officials.
Cases against him are registered in Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Batala and Gurdaspur, and now a fresh case has been registered against him in Valtoha. Cops said he is a proclaimed offender in four cases filed in Tarn Taran district.
