Residents of various areas of Ferozepur are these days facing a grave problem of mixing of wastewater with drinking water while the slow pace of laying of new sewerage system in the town has further deteriorated the situation.

It was been more than a year ago that the process to revamp the sewerage system in the town commenced, but yet still it is incomplete, following which water gets accumulated in trenches dug up for the purpose in various parts of the town even after minor showers.

Stagnant water not only causes trouble for commuters, especially those on foot, but has also become a major cause of spread of diseases, but no one seems to be bothered about the problem.

No fogging has ever been done in the vicinity and people have started falling victim to various types of viral diseases, said KR Tripathi, a social activist.

The supply of drinking water is already scarce, but the choking of the sewerage pipes in various parts of the city has further deteriorated the situation, rued Avon Bhalla, a local resident.

Dashmesh Nagar, Rose Avenue, Friends Colony and Bharat Nagar are the worst affected areas in the town.

"There should be a special mechanism to check the quality of the new sewerage work being done in the area so that the problem does not recur, he said.

"I was apprised of the problem and I have instructed the local municipal corporation officials to take a quick action to resolve the problem," said DPS Kharbanda, deputy commissioner, Ferozepur.
