To promote watching hockey in the state, the Surjit Hockey Society under the slogan - "Watch hockey, win Nano car, motorcycles, refrigerators and LCDs" has offered Nano car, motorcycles, refrigerators and LCDs for the spectators of the 29th Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament.

To promote watching hockey in the state, the Surjit Hockey Society under the slogan - "Watch hockey, win Nano car, motorcycles, refrigerators and LCDs" has offered Nano car, motorcycles, refrigerators and LCDs for the spectators of the 29th Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament.

Former advisor to CM and MLA Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and Olympian Pargat Singh, MLA, unveiling the prize ceremony for the tournament that will begin on October 11.

US-based Nano car sponsor Amarjit Singh Tut, leading farmer and transporter, handed over the car keys to Priyank Bharti, president of Surjit Hockey Society, and Iqbal Singh Sandhu, organising secretary of the society.

Dr Cheema, who is also the chief advisor of the society, said Surjit Hockey Society had done an excellent job to uplift the national game of the country and also to create interest amongst spectators.

Olympian Pargat Singh, who is also secretary of the Punjab Hockey Association, said although the society is giving a cash reward of Rs 3.5 lakh, Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 20,000 to the winner, runners-up and the best player of the tournament, respectively, he would urge the state government to increase the cash prize given by the society to the finalist in the interest of promoting hockey in the state.

Priyank Bharti, deputy commissioner, Jalandhar, and president of the society, said the main idea to start the lucky draw coupon scheme was to attract and create more interest among the general public to promote the national game of hockey.

The spectators will get daily lucky coupons till October 19 at the entry gate of the stadium while players will be issued the lucky coupons on the day of their first match.

Sandhu said no entry fee would be charged from the spectators, who will come to witness the hockey matches. Before the start of the final match on October 19, Punjabi folk singer Gurdas Maan will entertain the spectators, Sandhu added.
