Due to heavy inflow water in the catchment area, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on Thursday again released water from the Pong dam by raising the gates by 5 ft. A total of 39292 cusecs of water was released in the Shah Nehar Barrage, 23959 cusecs through the spillways and 15333 cusecs through turbines.

Water level in the dam was registered at 1377.54 ft. BBMB chief engineer Jai Dev said a close watch was being kept on the water level and it was being discharged as per the directions of the head office in Chandigarh.

He added that last year on the same day water level in the Pong dam stood at 1322 ft which meant that it was 55.54 ft higher this year.

Shah Nehar executive engineer Amrik Singh said 11500 cusecs of water was being released in Mukerian Hydel Channel and 27792 cusecs in Beas river.
