The passengers at Ludhiana railway station will now be able to get chilled and pure water at cheaper rates, as the railway authorities have started installing water vending machines at the platforms. Three water vending machines have already been installed at the city railway station but the same would be functional after being duly inaugurated by general manager, Northern Railways, AK Puthia.
The water vending machines will enable the visitors to get water after inserting coins of different denominations.
Divisional railway manager, Anuj Parkash, said that it is a wonderful initiative by railway ministry to provide hygienic water at cheaper rates to the public. Moreover, the passengers, with the help of these machines, will be able to buy the exact quantity of water that they require for consumption.
The Railway Ministry has plans to set up 5,000 water vending machines across 1,200 railway stations. As many as 61 machines will be installed at 15 different stations under Ferozepur division, of which eight machines are meant for Ludhiana station. Sources said that the installation of water vending machines will reduce the business of private companies selling water bottles.
