Chief minister (CM) Virbhadra Singh, on Thursday, said the state government was trying to create better sports infrastructure in the state and special emphasis was being laid on equal promotion of rural sport.
“An amount of Rs 785.09 lakh was being spent on developing sports infrastructure in the current fiscal and provision of Rs 50 lakh has been made under special component plat to construct 50 play grounds to provide better facilities to youth,” said the CM while presiding over the closing ceremony of six-day Junior National and Master's National Men and Women Power Lifting Championship held at Rait.
The championship was organised by Himachal Pradesh Power Lifting Association. The CM announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh to the association for promoting the sports activities. He also announced to open Tehsil Welfare Office at Rait, besides providing financial grants for renovation of playground at Government Senior Secondary School, Rait, starting science classes in Government School, Darini, from next academic session and opening up of Ayurvedic Dispensary at Dadhamb.
Earlier, the CM had inaugurated Throat Bridge worth Rs 141.84 lakh on Chambi Khad.
Welcoming the CM, chairman, HP Power Lifting Association and vice-chairman, State Forest Development Corporation, Kewal Singh Pathania said, “A total of 29 power lifting associations participated in the championship.”
He expressed gratitude towards the CM for giving priority to promote sports activities and setting up sports directorate in the state.
Subrata Dutta, general secretary of Indian Power Lifting Association presented the vote of thanks.
President, Power Lifting Association, USA, Peter Thoran also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the association for developing good infrastructure for the sport in the state.
