Demanding justice for the thousands of Sikhs killed during the anti-Sikh riots in 1984, the Punjab student union (PSU) protested against the central government at Verka bypass, here on Tuesday.

Students from Guru Nanak Dev University College, Verka participated in the protest, which was led by their president Harpreet Singh.

“From November 2 till 6 in 1984, more than 8,000 Sikhs were killed. The police arrested just a few who were involved in the killings but later they were also released. It is so unfortunate and shameful that even when everyone knows and majority have seen people like Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar supervising and instigating people to kill Sikhs, they are still not behind bars. We appeal to the state government that this matter should be taken up to the Centre and even the central government should act in a righteous manner in this regard,” the protesting students said.

They added, “Congress is responsible for these Anti-Sikh riots and even when there is a BJP government at the Centre and they have failed to give justice to the Sikh victims.”
