Athletes, power lifters, Hammer thrower, Martial Arts and much more. The Pakistani Women Kabaddi team is a mixture of all of these.

There were no signs of Women Kabaddi in Pakistan before this. But enthusiasm to participate in the World Cup prompted the authorities back home to form a women team.

After picking players from various sporting backgrounds and putting them through rigorous training and fitness sessions, a strong 16 member team was developed to participate in the World Cup.

Happy to be in India, skipper Madiha Latif said, “Although we are a new team but there is no dearth of talent. Kabaddi is a popular sport in Pakistan and that prompted the country to form a women team as well and send it for the mega event.”

We have worked very hard and are raring to go for this big event to be held in Indian Punjab, she claimed.

To a query regarding taboos on Pakistani Women on participating in such sports, Latif said, “There is nothing like that. Things have changed and now women in Pakistan have excelled in various fields.”

Talking to HT, Trainer of the team, Aisha Qazi said, “Although it is the first women Kabaddi team from Pakistani but the players are well trained and know all the tactics of the game.”

It was not tough to make the team. Because almost each member is associated some or the other sport like power lifting, martial arts or athletics. So it wasn’t much tough because Kabaddi too is a sport of strength, she added.

The team is really excited and we all are very keenly waiting to see them showcase skills on the ground, she added.

Razia Sultana, a Kabaddi team member, who is also a National Hammer Thrower for Pakistan said, “I hope it will be a great experience. There was lot of enthusiasm and hard work that formed this Kabaddi team. Definitely the sporting background helped all and we are very confident of putting best foot forward.”
