Welcome BJP’s decision to end Haj subsidy: Punjab MLA Razia Sultana
However, Malerkotla MLA said that if the amount will not be used for the welfare of minorities, then they will oppose the decision.
The only Muslim minister in Punjab and Malerkotla MLA, Razia Sultana, has welcomed the Modi government’s decision to end Haj subsidy for the annual pilgrimages in India, here on Wednesday.
However, she said that if the amount will not be used for the welfare of minorities, then they will oppose the decision.
“The central government claims that the money saved will be used for education of Muslim girls. If they use the subsidy money for such noble causes, I welcome the decision. But if BJP does not spend the amount for girls’ education, we will oppose the decision and demand that the Haj subsidy should be continued,” she said, while attending a state-level function here to commemorate the Kuka Sikh martyrs.
Former Congress MLA Mohammad Sadiq and former SAD minister Hira Singh Gabria were also present during the function. Gabria praised former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for building memorials dedicated to the Sikh martyrs, during his regime.
Namdhari Dera chief Satguru Uday Singh emphasises on the philosophy of Sikhism. “There is need to practice the principles of Sikhism to save our country,” he said.
Meanwhile, Namdhari Darbar president HS Hanspal showed dissatisfaction over the functioning of CBI in the probe of sect matriarch Chand Kaur’s murder (in 2016).
