KJS Cheema, special principal secretary to the chief minister, on Friday took stock of wheat procurement arrangements at the grain markets of Ferozepur and Fazilka districts. S Karuna Raju, deputy commissioner of Ferozepur, accompanied him on the tour.

Cheema also met with commission agents, farmers, labour union leaders, procurement officials and common people and employees at the grain markets.

The crop should be procured in 24 hours of arrival at the market, payment made in 48 hours, and lifting done within 72 hours, Cheema has said. The shortage of labour and gunny bags, he said, would be over in another two days.

In Ferozepur district, since April 17, 4.10 lakh metric tons (MT) of wheat has arrived, of which 90% has been procured, Raju has told Cheema.
