Procurement of wheat gaining momentum in the district with total purchase in various grain markets witnessing a big leap forward on Friday.
Compared to the total purchase of 1.52 lakh metric tonnes by Thursday, 2.31 lakh metric tonnes was sold by Friday, registering a rise of 79, 000 metric tonnes in a single day.
Deputy commissioner Rahul Tewari on Saturday said 2.51 lakh metric tonnes of wheat crop had reached the grain markets in the district by Friday, of which, 2.31 lakh metric tonnes were purchased by different agencies.
Punjab State Grains Procurement Corporation Limited has purchased 37,560 metric tonnes, Punjab State Cooperative Supply And Marketing Federation Limited - 42,526 metric tonnes, Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited - 46,003 metric tonnes, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation - 33,401 metric tonnes, Punjab Agro - 21,971 metric tonnes and Food Corporation of India purchased 45,706 metric tonnes of wheat crop on Friday.
Private agencies too have purchased 3,700 metric tonnes of produce.
