Bhagwant Mann, 43, who was made Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab unit president on Monday, had started his career as a stand-up comedian. A rustic leader having strong connect with people, Mann entered politics when Manpreet Singh Badal launched People’s party of Punjab (PPP) in 2011.
He unsuccessfully contested the 2012 assembly polls from Lehragaga on the PPP ticket. In 2014, he became the founding member of AAP’s Punjab unit and the same year he won the Sangrur LS seat with the highest margin of over 2 lakh votes in Punjab. He faced flak after he uploaded a video of Parliament complex on social media, raising security concerns. Despite his excessive drinking habit, he remains popular among masses.
