A candidate ran away with answer sheet, while a politician did a crazy thing to help his son, out of the six cases of cheating that were reported across state on Wednesday during the Punjab school education board (PSEB) Class 12 physics examination.

A case each was reported from Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Sangrur, Rupnagar, and Pathankot, but a bizarre thing happened at SD College for Nursing, Hoshiarpur, where a local leader, Surinder “Pappi”, walked into the centre creating a ruckus, had his son, Gaurav, point out the brightest student in the room; whose pages he then tore off and tried to staple to his son’s paper.

The senior superintendent of police (SSP) was called and an FIR (first-information report) lodged.

In Phagwara, meanwhile, a student ran away with answer sheet from Ramgarhia Senior Secondary School when teachers were about to collect the papers.

Finance development officer (FDO) Gurtej Singh; deputy secretary Parkash; assistant secretary Gurmeet Randhawa; and superintendent Gurdev Singh were sent with their teams to Tarn Taran, Phagwara, Gurdaspur and Barnala centres, respectively, to collectthe answer sheets and bring those to the head office for checking.
