Widow accuses property dealer of rape; probe on

A 38-year-old widow from Moga had accused a resident of Bhagta village in Bathinda of raping her. Doctors at the local civil hospital conducted medical examination of the victim on Sunday and the report was awaited.

The police are investigating into the matter and are yet to register a case against suspect Balbir Singh (40), who the victim claimed was a property dealer. They, however, claimed that the victim was changing her statement and there seemed to some property dispute in the case.

The report of medical examination is awaited, Dr Ritu at the civil hospital said. "The victim claimed that she was raped by mixing intoxicant in her soft drink."

Station house officer, Bhagta police station, Gurdeep Singh said, "We will register a case after investigations are over. The victim is changing her statements time and again. She came alone from Moga in her car and was raped after her stay here for two hours."

"The victim had claimed that the suspect, who was a property dealer, had called her to have a look at the house she wanted to buy. After spiking her soft drink, he raped her," the SHO added.
