A widow Surjit Kaur was murdered by unidentified persons in her sleep while she was alone at her house in Chol Chak village under Ghoman police station on Saturday night.

Surjit ran a small provisions shop in the village to earn a living after her husband Sucha Singh's death four years ago. Her son Satnam Singh worked in the thermal plant in Ropar.

The murder came to light when Surjit's mother-in-law Parkash Kaur, living in a separate house in the village, came to her house on Sunday morning. When her knocks on the door failed to evoke a response, she called up the neighbours, who found the widow lying dead in a pool of blood in the courtyard of her house.

Batala SSP Tulsi Ram, Sri Hargobindpur DSP Parminder Singh Virk and Ghoman SHO Kulwinder Singh Virk visited the spot and inquired about the case.
