Wife, beau accused of killing soldier

Based on mobile-phone call record, the police on Monday arrested a man on a charge of killing the husband of the woman he loved.

Accused Pradeep is reported to have told the police that the woman, Punam, had motivated him to murder her husband, Balbir Singh, and that he had committed the crime with the help of his cousin, Virendar. Balbir Singh was a soldier in the army had come home to Baas village near Hisar on a break.

All accused are under arrested and also charged with conspiring to kill the soldier. The police say that on the night of November 11, Pradeep and Virendar got Balbir Singh drunk and when he was knocked out, strangulated him with a rope and dumped his body in the village.

The police studied the cell phones of Balbir and his wife, Punam, and found that she had called Pradeep in the middle of the night. The police interrogated Pradeep rigorously and he accepted that he had committed the crime.

"Punam is a teacher in Rohtak, and she had an illicit affair with Pradeep," said a police officer.
