A woman with the help of her paramour allegedly strangulated her husband to death for thrashing her for having illicit relations, at their house in Surjit Nagar of the Daba area on Monday. The duo fled the spot after committing the crime.
Later, the police arrested the duo and registered a case of murder against them. The deceased has been identified of Vashisht Prasad Gupta, 36, while the accused are his wife Kanchan Devi, 26, and her paramour Anil Kumar, 26.
Anil Kumar, who was a tenant in their house for the past two years, had allegedly developed illicit relations with Kanchan. Anil and Vashisht worked at the same hosiery factory near Dhuri Lines area.
According to SHO of Daba police station Jatinderjeet Singh, Vashisht has come to know about the alleged illicit relations between his wife and Anil and opposed it.
Kanchan told the police that her husband used to beat her up over the issue, so she hatched a plan with Anil to kill him.
On Monday morning when Vashisht entered the room after taking a bath, the duo pounced over him and overpowered him. Vashisht tried to confront them, but failed. The duo then strangulated him to death.
The SHO said on hearing the noise, their neighbour Mulkh Raj came to the house and was aghast when he saw Vashisht lying dead on the floor. Meanwhile, Kanchan and Anil rushed out of the room and fled. Mulkh Raj immediately sounded the police.
"After investigating in the matter the police launched a manhunt to arrest the accused and nabbed them. The duo was trying to flee from the city to refrain arrest," the SHO added.
Vashisht, a resident of Bihar, had married Kanchan around six years ago. The couple have two children. This was the second marriage of Vashisht. Anil Kumar is also a native of Bihar.
Police anxious over custody of kids
The police are anxious over the custody of children (five-year-old son and three-year-old daughter) of Vashisht and Kanchan Devi.
Currently, the children are at the police station along with their mother. The police have informed their relatives to take the custody of children as they are too young to understand the situation and are continuously asking their mother to go back home.
Inspector Jatinderjeet Singh said they were waiting for the relatives of Vashisht so that they could give the custody of children.
