Sukhwinder Singh Danny, a Youth Congress leader, who is in the poll fray as an independent from here, has said that he was a loyal Congress worker and would withdraw his nomination if the party asked him to do so. Danny had filed papers on the last day of filing nominations, and was left in the fray as an independent after the scrutiny of the nominations as one set of his papers filed as a candidate of the Congress stood cancelled lacking party corroboration.

“I have been making it clear from the day I filed my nomination papers that I have filed my nomination as a loyal party worker and only on the instructions by the party high command sensing some trouble with the nomination of the official Congress candidate Joginder Singh,” Danny said.

“Now, again, I must say that he shall withdraw from the contest if the party asked me to do by Saturday, the last day for withdrawal of nominations. However, if the party accepts his candidature, I might be there,” he said. Congress candidate Joginder Singh had already filed his nomination on Monday with his wife as a covering candidate. After scrutiny, he stands as the party candidate.

“If the party does not take any stand by tomorrow and asks me to withdraw, he will be left as an independent candidate from Faridkot seat where Joginder Singh is the official Congress candidate,” Danny added. It may lead to an awkward situation if both Danny and Joginder Singh are in the poll fray.
