The Khanna Police claimed to have solved the murder of labourer, who was found dead in Dussehra ground on October 14, with the arrest of the deceased's two friends on late Sunday night.
The police claimed that the accused killed the labourer following a petty issue.
The accused have been identified as Dharminder Kumar alias Kala of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar and Mukesh Kumar alias Noni of Krishna Nagar of Khanna. They were arrested from Amloh Road in Khanna and on interrogation they admitted to the crime.
Khanna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sushil Kumar said “Half naked body of a labourer, who was bludgeoned to death, was found in the Dussehra ground of the city.”
“We contacted the people of the area for the identification of the body, but to no avail,” the SSP said.
“Meanwhile, we got a clue and identified the deceased as Ram Niwas of Model Town area. Hailing from Badayu of Uttar Pradesh, Niwas was living as a tenant here,” he added.
The SSP said identification of the body was a major breakthrough in the case. As it was apparent that the man was killed during a brawl and was drunk, the police suspected that some acquaintance might have killed him.
The accused told police that on October 13 evening, the trio was drinking liquor in the Dussehra ground. Under the influence of liquor they indulged in a brawl over a petty issue and following that the duo bludgeoned Niwas to death with baseball bat and bricks and fled.
