A woman, along with two accomplices, killed her four-year-old son in Malerkotla on Saturday. The police have booked Rani, her paramour Sandeep Kumar and Parminder Singh, for murdering Buta Singh and for destroying evidence. All three accused have absconded.
The body is yet to be found. However, a case has been registered on the basis of a statement by the child's father Manjit Singh.
Deputy superintendent of police Bimal Sharma refused to divulge details about the motive for the murder, only saying that the case was under investigation and efforts were on to nab the accused.
Rani had gotten married to Manjit, a resident of Issru village in Ludhiana district, seven years ago and had a son with him.
According to the police, a few years after their marriage, Manjit and his parents learnt of Rani's affair with Sandeep, following which there used to be frequent quarrels in the family.
Rani then separated from her husband eight months ago and started living with her son in Malerkotla, the police said. She got married to Sandeep without getting a divorce from her first husband.
On Saturday, when Manjit came to visit his son, he got no response and complained to the police.
