The district police have arrested Sarabjit Kaur, 24, an employee of the State Bank of Patiala branch at Cheeman for stealing the ATM keys and conspiring with her boyfriend to loot the kiosk.

Ironically, her boyfriend Gulab Singh, 27, and his accomplices failed to unlock the ATM and when an inquiry was lodged into who gave them the keys, Sarabjit was the only suspect.

Police officials claimed that she has confessed to the crime after being interrogated and arrested on a complaint by Shiv Ram, the manager of the branch.

"She claimed that she was lured into giving Gulab the keys, who assured her that the stolen money would secure their future," a police official said.

The woman has been booked under Sections 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master), 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).

Investigating officer Hardip Singh said Sarabjit Kaur was produced in a court and had been remanded in two-day police custody. The other perpetrators of the crime, including Gulab Singh, are still at large.
