A woman, Sushma Rani, 25, was allegedly killed by her in-laws on Sunday night at Balran village in this district.

The police have registered a case against her husband, Balkar Singh, under Section 304-B (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of Naveen Kumar, Sushma's brother. Sushma had married Balkar in 2007 and brought dowry with her but Balkar had allegedly started harassing her for more. On Sunday morning, Sushma told her parents on telephone that Balkar had tortured her physically for not meeting his dowry demand.

On Sunday evening, Balkar called Naveen and told him to visit her sister as she was unwell. When Naveen reached Sushma’s place, he found her body on the bed. He called the police and lodged a case against Balkar. Sushma's relatives claimed her body after autopsy. A hunt is on for Sushma's in-laws.
