The police have booked husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law of one Jiwanjot Kaur (29), who was found dead at her home on Monday evening, for murder on the complaint of her father.

Jiwanjot was a post graduate and married Gurwinder Singh, a computer teacher, on April 5, 2012. They had a seven-month-old daughter. Jiwanjot was found hanging at her home on Monday night and in-laws projected it a suicide.

Gurdev Singh, the father of the victim, lodged a complaint with city police on Tuesday alleging that her daughter was being harassed by her in-laws for bringing inadequate dowry. "This all happened after birth of her daughter. Earlier, Jiwanjot hid everything from us and turned an introvert," he told HT. Her uncles Nirmal Singh and Charanjeet Singh alleged that, "Jiwanjot was very ambitious and she could not think of ending her life. The in-laws killed her and concocted the suicide story."

A case under Section 302 (murder) and 34 (act done by several persons with common intention) of Indian Penal Code has been registered. The body was handed over to kin after post mortem.

"No arrests had been made so far. Investigation teams had been formed to verify the claims. Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused," SHO (city) BM Ladhar said.
