A woman died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday, after which the local police booked four persons from her in-laws' family, including her husband, on charges of murder.
The deceased has been identified as Raj Kaur, a resident of Bhatikalan village in Sangrur district.
Acting swiftly on the complaint of the relatives of the deceased, the local police lifted the body from the cremation ground and took it in their possession for sending it for post-mortem.
Investigation officer Sanjeev Goyal said as per the complaint of Devraj, uncle of the girl, Raj's in-laws set her on fire on Sunday as she refused to give them her property.
Raj was married to Bhupinder Singh around 15 years ago and has three children.
She was the only daughter, her parents had died recently.
The police said that according to the complaint, Raj's in-laws tried to grab her property, including her ancestral house.
Raj's family called her uncle on Sunday morning saying that Raj was not well and had been referred to a hospital in Chandigarh, and had died on the way.
Goyal said the accused took her body directly to the cremation ground from where they got possession of the body for a detailed investigation.
The police have booked her husband Bhupinder Singh, his mother Murti Kaur, brother Karamjit Singh and their relative Zora Singh.
