A 22-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Sector 8 here on Sunday.

The victim, Laxmi Kumari, was found hanging from a fan by her elder brother Rakesh Kumar. The police was informed and the body was lowered after cutting the rope. The police rushed the victim to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 where she was declared brought dead by doctors.

A suicide note was recovered in which she claimed to be in love with Pawan Kumar without blaming anyone for her action.

According to police, the victim was under stress. Last year, she got engaged to Pawan, a resident of Burail, who later broke the engagement with her and got engaged to another woman.

The police ruled out foul play.

The body had been kept in the hospital mortuary and would be handed over to the family after post-mortem examination. The police had started inquest proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC in this connection. The victim was a postgraduate and was doing a private job.
