Woman held after son booked on wife's complaint for rape, dowry harassment

City Police have arrested have booked five persons after a married woman complained of rape and dowry harassment charges against her husband and others. Police have since arrested Madhu Khanna, the mother-in-law of the complainant.

The other four accused were Madhu's son Raghu Khanna, who is reportedly the second husband of the complainant, Raghu's uncle Vijay Khanna, Raghu's sister Neetu and her husband.

A case was registered under Sections 376, 406, 506 and 120-B of the IPC at E division police station.

The complainant, who had divorced a Ludhiana resident and was mother to a five-year-old son, said that the accused contacted her through a social networking site in November 2011. She said that she told him about her first marriage and the child, claiming that Raghu raped her at his showroom at hide market.

The complainant alleged that the accused introduced her to his mother, sister, uncle and brother-in-law and married her on March 3 this year. The complainant said that within 10 days of her marriage, the accused started misbehaving with her and demanded dowry. The accused allegedly kept her dowry articles and pushed her out of the house after beating her.

ASI Sarwan Singh of E division police station said that efforts were on to arrest the other accused.
