Woman held with Rs 40 lakh heroin

The Moga police on Thursday claimed to have seized heroin worth Rs 80 lakh from two smugglers, including a woman, in the district.

SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor said the police had also recovered Rs 3.5 lakh in cash from the woman.

"A special police team led by Fatehgarh Panjtoor SHO Jagtar Singh had got a tip-off that a woman had arrived in Moga area for selling heroin. The police barricaded various places in the district. Chhabir Kaur was arrested near Gohliwala village with heroin worth Rs 40 lakh," said the SSP.

The SSP said while a police party led by Harinder Singh, in-charge of the CIA staff, Moga, was patrolling, the police stopped a Scorpio vehicle, being driven by Davinder Singh of Daulewala near Mehal village. "During the search, the police recovered heroin worth Rs 40 lakh and eight mobile phones," Toor added.

Besides, the police arrested motorcyclists Jagsir Singh of Akaliawala and Saurabh Yadav of Goniana in Bathinda with a huge stock of illegal medicines.

The SSP said, "The police have also arrested Hardev Singh of Bilaspur village for carrying 15kg poppy husk. All these have been booked under the NDPS Act."

The arrested people were produced in the court on Thursday and were sent in police custody.
