Woman hurt in mishap dies after giving birth on road in Amritsar

A pregnant 21-year-old resident of Bundala village in the district gave birth to a baby boy on the road, before succumbing to her injuries at Jandiala Guru on Thursday after the motorcycle she was riding pillion was hit by a rashly-driven tractor-trolley.

The deceased has been identified as Laxmi (21) and the accident occurred near the Radha Soami Satsang Bhawan, Jandiala Guru, when the woman was on her way to hospital with her husband, Manjinder Singh, for thae delivery of the child.

The Amritsar Rural Police have booked Hawa Singh, the driver of the tractor trolley, and a resident of Mandi Ganga Nagar, under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. However, the accused is yet to be arrested.
