Woman killed, 3 hurt as truck hits scooter

A 35-year-old woman was killed, while her husband and two children were injured after a speeding truck hit their scooter at Gill Road on Saturday morning.

While Ranjit Kaur was killed on the spot, her husband, Pritpal Singh, 38, and two sons, aged four and 10, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where their condition is stated to be stable.

Pritpal, along with his wife and children, was on his way on a scooter. As they reached Gill Road, a speeding truck hit their scooter. As a result, all of them fell on the road, following which the truck ran over Ranjit, killing her on the spot. Her husband and children survived as they fell aside. The deceased ran a playway school in the area, while her husband is a chemist.

Meanwhile, Shimlapuri police reached the spot and arrested the truck driver, besides impounding his vehicle.

Gurdev Singh, station house officer (SHO), Shimlapuri police station, said a case was registered against the truck driver, who was identified as Karnail Singh of Sangrur. He was going to Dasua to load gravel.
