Gurcharan Singh (55), an instructor at ITI Mansa, was attacked in the wee hours of Thursday by robbers while he and his wife Paramjeet Kaur were sleeping on the rooftop. According to the police, Gurcharan Singh's sons, Harpreet Singh and Gurjeet Singh, were sleeping on the ground floor with their family when the incident occurred.

"His family was attacked around 2 am on Thursday as six-seven robbers entered their house through the roof and attacked the couple with sticks. Later, the robbers reached the ground floor and attacked Gurcharan's daughter-in-law after she refused to divulge any information about the ornaments and valuables. When Gurcharan's daughter-in-law started shouting, one of his neighbours fired shots at the robbers as a result of which, the robbers took Gurcharan's gun and started counter firing due to which Gurcharan's daughter-in-law lost her life while on the way to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana," said SSP Bhupinder Singh Khattra.

The senior cop also confirmed that the whole family was badly injured and some members were still in a critical condition. The cops hinted that the modus operandi of the gang indicated they must be from outside Punjab. "We have asked our expert to get a sketch of the suspect based on the testimony of one of the daughters-in-law," said Khattra.
