District police booked and arrested husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law of a 22-years-old married woman, who committed suicide on Monday evening, on the charges of abetment to suicide.

Jyoti (22) ended her life by consuming poisonous substance at her home situated in nearby village Shallapur Beit. Her father reported to police that she was having strained relationship with her in-laws.

In his statement, the victim's father alleged that Jyoti was having differences with her husband Sukhdev Singh, over petty issues, since her marriage which was solemnised 18 months ago.

"I along with my wife tried to resolve the issue several times in the past. On Sunday, Jyoti told me over the telephone that her in-laws had beaten her mercilessly and asked me to take her from there. I was busy at some place, so could not visit her," he said adding that, "later after some time, she called again to inform that she was fine. But a day after, around 4.30pm I got a call from her family members informing that Jyoti had committed suicide by swallowing some poisonous substance."

"Jyoti was pregnant and her in-laws forced her to take this extreme step," he alleged.

On his complaint, police had booked Sukhdev Singh (husband), Veena Kumari (Mother-in-law) and Sumanpreet Kaur (Sister-in-law) under section 306 (abetment to suicide)/34 (act done by several persons with common intention) of Indian Penal Code.
