A woman and a man were killed in two separate incidents here on Friday and Saturday. Simbal Kaur, about 35, who was a widow and had been living in Kotkapura near the Jaitu road, was allegedly murdered by a man, who had been persuading her to have physical relations with him.
The murder took place at about 9am on Saturday when the victim, accompanied by her mother, was going to the market near the railway road. The accused allegedly stopped her on the way and demanded to know whether she accepted his offer, but on her refusal, he attacked her and stabbed her in the abdomen with a knife, sources claimed. She was rushed to the local civil hospital where she was declared dead.
The victim was originally a resident of Dohak village of Muktsar district and stayed in Kotkapura with some relatives and worked as domestic help. The accused, Surjeet Singh alias Gyani, who is also of the same age, is also from Dohak village.

The victim was in the business of truck transport and allegedly was not on good terms with his wife.
"The victim was staying with his mother and used to come very late. The mother kept the door open for him and last night, when he reached home and parked his car, somebody allegedly shot him dead. The assaulter might be closely following him," claimed a source.
When the mother heard some noise at the door, she came out to see and found him dead at the door, it has been learnt.
