After allegedly molested by some miscreants, a 26-year-old married woman attempted to commit suicide on Saturday by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her room at Bukanwala village, 8 km from here. The victim has been working as a helper at a tailoring centre at Fauji market here for the past three years.

Jasvir Singh, husband of the victim, said that his wife was being harassed by some miscreants and she had also informed the Sadar police station over phone about this. On Saturday, when she was coming home, the miscreants stopped her forcibly and allegedly tried to molest her. She somehow escaped, he added.

"I received a phone call from her in this regard. As I got the call, I came to my house. But I found my hanging from the ceiling fan. I immediately brought her down. Fortunately she survived," said Jasvir Singh.

Tara Singh, assistant sub-inspector of Sadar police station, said, "As soon as we received information about the incident, we reached the house of the victim and brought her to the Dr Mathura Dass Pahwa civil hospital, where the doctors declared her out of danger."

According to information, the police have recorded the statement of the victim and further investigation is underway at the moment. No arrest has been made so far in this connection.
