A 20-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her father and uncle to protect their 'honour' in Jaanian village near Jandiala.

The police have arrested the father Balwinder Singh and his elder brother Baldev Singh. The duo had reportedly carried the murder by suffocating the woman with a pillow, early Wednesday morning.

Station house officer Jandiala police station, sub-inspector Arun Sharma said: "A 20-year-old woman Rupinder Kaur was having an affair with Sukhdev Singh. They were from different castes. The family had told Rupinder not to remain in touch with the man, but Rupinder had been adamant on marrying Sukhdev."

The accused has been arrested and a case under section 302 (murder) has been registered.

The police said that the family told the relatives that Rupinder had died of heart attack. However, the boy in question Sukhdev Singh raised a hue and cry.

Reacting to the complaint, police reached the home and took away the dead body. The police added that the girl was asked to stop her studies after the parents came to know of the relationship.
