A woman, identified as Pal Kaur, 40, was found murdered here on Thursday evening. Kaur is survived by her daughter, son and husband.

The cause of her murder is reportedly said be an old family feud.

On a complaint filed by the deceased's daughter Gurdeesh Kaur, 16, the Sunam police have booked Gurpal Singh, 45, of Krishangarh and one unidentified person under sections 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Talking to HT, Sunam deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jagatpreet Singh said, "The accused first tried to strangulate Pal Kaur and her daughter with a duppata. Having failed to kill them, they forced them to drink some insecticide. While the mother died, the daughter survived but fainted. On gaining consciousness, she called up her brother on phone, who rushed them to the local hospital, where the mother was declared brought dead while Gurdeesh was referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala."

The police are investigating the matter. No one has been arrested so far till the filing of the report.
