The police claimed to have arrested one Maninder Kaur, wife of Inderjeet Singh, a resident of Bathinda, in about the 3-year-old case of cheating of 85 lakh. All the three accused in the case had been declared proclaimed offenders. One of them has been arrested now.

According to the police press release, Balwinder Singh and Deepinder Singh, both residents of Chack Bir Sarkar village of Muktsar, had approached the police in May 2011 alleging that Inderjeet Singh, his wife Maninder Kaur and Sukhpal Singh had cheated them of 85 lakh by making false claims that they were representatives of an insurance company, which doubled the amount deposited with it in two-and-a-half years and trusting them they had handed them over 85 lakh and they had promised to issue receipts later on.

But, the complaints, had alleged that they were neither issued any receipts of the cash received by the three as promised nor was the amount deposited in their accounts.

The police had registered the case against the three after verifying the facts in June 2011 under section 420,506 and 34 IPC at Sadar police station, Muktsar.

A Muktsar court had declared them proclaimed offenders in March 2014 as they continued to abscond from the police.
